Born into a non-Christian broken home, Wayne grew up living with relatives, in a foster home, and eventually in Barium Springs Presbyterian Home for Children, Barium Springs, NC. He was converted under the ministry of Rev. Charles McNutt and the Northside Presbyterian Church PCUS/PCA in Burlington, NC, where he lived with his Aunt Mary during his senior year of High School. Sensing a call to the ministry, he attended and graduated from King College, Bristol, TN, in 1968 (BA in Psychology). He attended Columbia Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA, for one quarter in 1968, and then transferred to Reformed Theological Seminary in 1969, from which he graduated in 1972, with an M. Div.
Wayne married Judy Belcher, of Haysi, VA, on July 9, 1971. They have three children: two married daughters, Emily Rogers Laughlin, married to Micah Laughlin, and Christian Rogers Barnes, married to Stephen Barnes, Jr., and one married son, Jonathan Isaac M’Cheyne Rogers, married to Kathryn Barnes. They have been blessed with nine grandchildren.
During college years, 1964-68, Wayne preached as a pre-ministerial student in several churches and worked with the Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship as a Youth Evangelist. During Seminary he was a founding organizer of the Reformed Youth Movement, a ministry that sponsors a summer youth conference in the SE. He is the managing editor of The Counsel of Chalcedon, the church magazine of Chalcedon Presbyterian Church, and has contributed to Table Talk, the monthly devotional of Ligonier Ministries and R.C. Sproul.
His wife, Judy Belcher Rogers, was born and grew up in the southwestern coal-mining mountains of VA. They met while Wayne was preaching at her home church during college. She attended King College in Bristol, TN. Born into a talented musical family, she and her sister, Becky Morecraft, have been singing together since they were young. She only began writing her own songs and recording after she had been married for several years. Judy has twelve recordings, something for all ages. Her music is distinguished from other typical Christian music by its biblical/theological content and message, with special care taken to be theologically correct and at the same time musically appealing. She has traveled from coast to coast and from Canada to England, singing and holding concerts for camps, churches, and schools. www.judyrogers.com.
